Boil Breadfruit

Ingredients:

  1. 1 fresh large green breadfruit
  2. Salt 1 tablespoon
  3. Water

Method:

  1. Use a knife to take off a thin layer of breadfruit skin.
  2. Cut it into half lengthwise and take off the innermost layer.
  3. Put the remaining breadfruit in a pot and fill it with water till all the breadfruit is covered under water.
  4. Add salt, cover it and put it over the fire to boil.
  5. Cook till breadfruit is tender.
  6. Fiji Indian style Boiled Breadfruit Recipe is ready.
  7. Serve with soup or you can fry it.

Note:

This can be used as a substitute for potatoes to make dishes.

Boiled Eggs

Ingredients:

  1. 2 Eggs
  2. 1/1/2 cup water.

Method:

  1. Pour water in the pot.
  2. Put the eggs in the pot.
  3. Boil this for 15 minutes.
  4. Take off the shell and serve.

Tips:

  1. Some people like fully boiled eggs and some like half cooked eggs. The above recipe is for fully boiled eggs.
  2. This can be served with other main course meals, soups, and you can also make sandwiches with this.

Meshed Potatoes and Boiled eggs

Ingredients:

  1. 2 Potatoes
  2. 3 Eggs
  3. Butter 4 tbsp
  4. salt
  5. 1 onion
  6. Garlic paste 1/4 tsp
  7. Powdered Chillies

Method:

  1. Put the eggs and potatoes in a pot and pour water till it is under water.
  2. Boil this till potatoes are tender.
  3. Peel the potatoes and put it in a dish.
  4. Take off the shell from the eggs and put the eggs in a dish.
  5. Mesh the potatoes and eggs.
  6. Finely dice the chillies and onions.
  7. Add Butter, Salt, onion, garlic paste and powdered chillies and mix well.
  8. Serve with roti or other food.

Boil Dalo (Fiji Indian)

Ingredients:

  1. Dalo 4 kg
  2. Water
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Sugar 2tbsp

Method:

  1. Peel Dalo and wash it clean.
  2. Cut it into cubes of approximately 2 inches.
  3. Put it in a large pot and pour water. All dalo should be under water.
  4. Add sugar and salt.
  5. Put it over the water and cook till tender.

Note:

  1. Salt and sugar prevents the dalo to be itchy on the tongue.
  2. You can know that the dalo is cooked by taking out a piece and breaking off a chunk from that piece with a fork. If it breaks off easily then its boiled and if its not tender, then its not fully cooked.
  3. If the dalo is not boiled fully, than you can have itchy tongue and neck after you eat it.
