Simple Lassi

Lassi

Ingredients:

  1. 2 Glass of curd (also known as yogurt, yoghurt, yogourt, yoghourt)
  2. 1 Glass water
  3. 1 Glass ice-cubes
  4. 12 teaspoons of sugar or sugar to taste

Method:

  1. Pour all the ingredients together in a blender and blend it till smooth.
  2. Pour in long glasses and serve.
  3. Store in a refrigerator.

Note:

  1. This is sweet lassi.
  2. Fruits can also be added to enhance the flavour.

Soot Drink

Ingredients:

  1. 1/4 tsp Turmeric
  2. 3 cups milk
  3. 1/4 tsp Ginger powder
  4. 1 inch long ginger crushed
  5. Sugar to taste
  6. 1 tbsp fenugreek seeds
  7. 2 tbsp Ghee

Method:

  1. Heat ghee in a pot.
  2. Splatter in funugreek seeds and fry it till brownish.
  3. Pour in the milk.
  4. Add all the other ingredients.
  5. Simmer for a few seconds after it starts boiling.
  6. Serve hot.

Notes:

Soot can also be spelt as sot, sort, sont, soont, saunt, sonth.

This recipe is an authentic Fiji Indian ayuverdic drink, handed down to us from generations to generation through our ancestors. This drink is prepared for the new mums to boost the supply of breast milk.

Its is proven that the following ingredients does boost breast milk but its side effects are not tested.

  1. Ginger
  2. Turmeric
  3. Funugreek seeds

Mint/ Peppermint Tea (Pudina tea)

Ingredients:

  1. 6 mint/peppermint leaves
  2. 1 cup hot water
  3. 2 teaspoon sugar

Method:

  1. Get 6 fresh peppermint leaves and wash it and put it in the mug.
  2. Add sugar in the mug.
  3. Pour boiling water in that mug.
  4. Mix well and drink it.
  5. Its a very refreshing drink, its also known as fresh herbal tea.
  6. This recipe is Fiji Indian style.

Tea (Lemon Leaves)

Ingredients:

  1. 10 Fresh Lemon leaves
  2. 4 cups water
  3. Sugar

Method:

  1. Wash the lemon Leaves.
  2. Pour the lemon leaves, water and sugar in a pot and boil it on the stove.
  3. Sieve and serve in a cup.

Simple Black/Red Tea (Tea bag tea) lal chai

Ingredients:

  1. Water
  2. Sugar
  3. Teabags

Method:

  1. Pour water in electric cattle and boil.
  2. Pour the hot water in a mug and dip the teabag till desired colour of tea.
  3. Add 1 or 2 teaspoons of sugar per mug and mix well.
  4. Serve hot with snacks/breakfast or sandwiches.

Passion Fruit Juice

Ingredients:

  1. 6 fresh ripe passion fruit
  2. 1 jug water
  3. 6 tbsp Sugar
  4. Ice cubes

Method:

  1. Fill the jug with water.
  2. Cut the passion fruits in half and take out the inside juice and seeds.
  3. Use a spoon to separate all the clustered seeds.
  4. Pour the passion fruit seeds and juice in the jug.
  5. Pour sugar and mix well.
  6. Use a strainer to strain out the seeds from the juice if you wish to.
  7. Add ice cubes and serve cold.

Lemon Juice

Ingredients:

  1. 1 Fresh Lemon
  2. Sugar 4 tbsp
  3. Water 1 liter
  4. Ice cubes

Method:

  1. Peel the lemon, cut it into halves and squeez out the juice in a bowl.
  2. In a jar, pour water, sugar and 2tsp of lemon juice.
  3. Stirr well till all sugar dissolves.
  4. Add ice cubes and serve in a glass.

Tips:

  1. Peeling the Lemon before squeezing out the lemon juice prevents the lemon juice from getting bitter.
  2. You can use iced water instead of water plus ice cubes if it is inconvinient.
  3. You can add more jemonjuice if you wish to have more sour.
  4. You can take more/less sugar as desired.

Ginger Milk Tea

A cup of Milk Tea (Chai)

Ingredients:

  1. 4 cups water
  2. Crushed ginger root 1 tsp
  3. 8 tsp Powdered milk
  4. Sugar as desired
  5. Loose Black tealeaves/ 4 Teabags

Method:

  1. Pour Powdered milk in a 500ml basin and add 3/4 cup of water to it. Stirr well so that no lumps are formed.
  2. Pour 4 cups water and ginger in a pot and make it to boil.
  3. When water is hot, add tealeaves and bring it to boil. Let the tealeaves to simmer for 30 seconds.
  4. Add milk and sugar and let it simmer for 30 seconds.
  5. Strain and serve hot with snacks.

Tips:

  1. Instead of Ginger you can use Elachi powder.
